Wilson holds first in-person Back to School Night in two years

Glen A. Wilson held their 8th Grade Parents Orientation on Apr. 11 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm to briefly introduce academic pathways and extracurriculars to incoming freshman students’ parents.

The orientation introduced the head faculty members and also showcased performances by choir, band, Color Guard, drama and more.

Justin Huh, senior and current Associated Student Body President, whose role during the event was to host, introduced all the wonderful faculty members and performers, while also keeping the families engaged. Huh explained that everything went smoothly and was a huge success, but he hoped that next time, the sports captains would be able to attend.

“Our sports captains were not able to attend this event like they normally do at the regular 8th Grade Orientations. It would be nice to have them introduce themselves and their personal athletic experience in high school at the 8th Grade Parent Orientation Night.” said Huh

Furthermore, junior Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) member Samantha Din says that she and many other members who participated in the event were informed at the last minute, which meant that they did not have a lot of time to prepare.

“To make this better for next time, I would suggest making it clearer for parents and future students on where to go, as well as give us a better notice, in order for us to prepare ahead of time.” says Din.

Lastly, junior Robotics member Nathan Lee suggested that they should have a more organized time for each presenter to talk, so it would not be as confusing as this time.

“I would have suggested smaller groups and set a fixed amount of time so that presenters could explain their topics better and without interruption,” says Lee.
