On Tuesday, April 23, varsity swim attended league prelims at Northview HS.
The four other swim teams in the Valle Vista League who attended include San Dimas, Rowland, Northview, and Baldwin Park. Many swimmers are attending league finals in hopes to qualify for California Scholastic Federation (CIF).
According to swimmer Emily Bermudez (12), this meet allowed the team to prepare for the last meets of the season and see who their competitors will be at CIF.
“I was surprised at how many people made it back to finals and how many good races we had,” Bermudez said. “This meet allowed us to see how strong the other [schools are]. I just want to finish the season strong by working hard.”
Additionally, co-captain Jonathan Han (12) believes the meet went well, but he can still improve for finals. Han placed first overall in the 50 yard freestyle.
“I was happy with my results because I was able to beat my [personal record],” Han said. “In the pool, my only competitor is myself and I just need to prepare myself mentally during warm up. I plan to work on small details during our remaining practices.”
Overall, co-captain Charley Jackson (12) hopes to perfect her events and have more swimmers attend CIF.
“My favorite part of the meet was being able to see everyone drop time and place in their events,” Jackson said. “Going into CIF, I plan on working on my starts and turns to fix little details. As a team, I hope more people can make CIF consideration times at finals.”
Qualifying swimmers will be attending CIF prelims on May 1 at Riverside City College.
