The Royal Wilson Marching Alliance performs at Disneyland’s Main Street Parade
Xavier Posadas (10)
What did the entire day look like at Disneyland? Were you able to enjoy the park afterward?
“The entire day at Disneyland was sunny and hot. I was able to enjoy the park after the parade. My favorite ride I went on Disneyland was Matterhorn.”
What instrument did you play?
“The instrument I play is tenors/quads which are drums.”
Was it difficult to stay in line with everyone else during the parade? Or were you used to doing that during marching band season?
“It was kinda difficult for me to stay in line with everyone else because the path of the parade we had to go was narrow. I was also at the edge of the line with my drums which was also difficult for me.”
Cristian Roca Catalan (12)
What made this day special/bittersweet as a senior?
“Being a senior and going through 4 years of band made the entire day bitter sweet in my option because us seniors never got to experience a day like that together. Seeing everyone you grew close and created lifelong memories with made the entire experience worthwhile.”
Did you prefer performing in a parade as opposed to a marching band?
“I preferred performing because everyone’s attention inside the park is on you and they’re all cheering you on which made performing a lot of fun!”
Was it difficult trying to be heard over the crowds and other marching bands?
“Surprisingly it was not difficult because our band is a decent size to where our sounds projects through the park. That says a lot too because I was in the back of the band with a lot of drums around me and I was still able to hear everyone else.”
Leticia Hsieh (10)
Was this your first time performing in a parade, or have you done it before?
“This was not my first time performing in a parade, since I’ve performed in two July 4 parades. However, this was my first time performing in a Disney parade.”
What was your favorite part about participating in the parade?
“My favorite part about participating in the parade is seeing the big crowd looking at us as we march down Main Street. Also, we got to spend time with friends at Disney, so that was fun.”
As a rising junior, do you hope to have a leadership position in RWMA as a junior/senior?
“As a rising junior/senior, I hope to achieve the position of saxophone section leader my senior year. I probably won’t be running for any positions this up coming year because I have friends who are going to be seniors and I want to spend my junior year’s summer band with them, since they won’t be here the year after.”
Matthew Vargas (11)
Would you like to return to this event next year?
“I would love to return and perform for Disney again.”
Did you feel stressed/anxious as you were walking in the parade?
“I was not anxious because i knew my music and was confident in the people around me but there was an overwhelming amount of people which in my opinion made it more exciting.”
What was your favorite part of playing in the parade?
“My favorite part of playing in the parade was walking down main street and seeing people smile as we marched through. I had always enjoyed watching the parade as a spectator, so being apart of it made it more memorable.”
