The Wildcat girls’ swim team defeated Corona HS with a score of 97-67 on Tuesday, Apr. 17.
Additionally, underclassmen focused on making it a special night for the seniors by leaving an enjoyable last impression and putting their all into the game, as the team celebrated senior night during this last home game.
In preparation for this important night, players spent countless hours during Spring Break and after school practicing their turns and dives.
Co-captain Charley Jackson (11) believes that the team’s increased dedication contributed towards its win.
“We have been putting more work into our relays and our individual events, trying to get closer to CIF times. We also worked on personal improvement, which helped us [attain] our win during the meet,” Jackson said.
For team member Alyssa Arroyo (12), the motivation to end the season on a high note and the Senior Night celebration pushed her to perform her best during the meet.
“Motivation was a key factor for me because it was my senior year, and I wanted to end the season with a strong win,” Arroyo said.
Although the team finished league strong, the preparations for California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) do not stop. The team is motivated to surpass their limits with better times through numerous practice sessions.
For the future, Jackson sees the team improving even more and attaining more personal goals than ever before. She feels that the team has the potential to perform well at CIF and has high hopes for the team.
“I want everyone to get closer to their own personal goals, and I hope to be able to perform well as a team at league preliminaries and finals. Hopefully we can send more people than we did last year to represent Wilson,” Jackson said.
CIF preliminaries for swim are on May 9.
