Key Club and Rotary Interact attended the 35th annual AIDS Walk in Downtown Los Angeles on Sunday, Oct. 20.
Volunteers participated in the walk and raised money through fundraising to spread awareness and help prevent individuals from contacting Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV).
The opening ceremony featured celebrities including Mia Mitchell and the Grey’s Anatomy cast; after the walk, the closing ceremony presented RuPaul’s drag queens.
According to Key Club vice president junior Nicole Tong, the AIDS Walk provided an enjoyable volunteering experience.
“By participating in the AIDS walk, we all got together and walked [for an important cause,]” Tong said. “I also got to meet people from different areas and see everyone support each other throughout the event.”
Furthermore, Rotary Interact vice president junior Edmond Chu enjoyed raising awareness for the cause, despite the distance of the walk.
“I felt really tired after attending the AIDS walk because we walked for about five miles,” Chu said. “[However], I got to spend time with my friends and have some fun while spreading awareness.”
In addition, Key Club division secretary senior William Trang took part in the walk to interact with people and to expand Key Club’s outreach.
“I decided to attend the AIDS Walk because most individuals in our Key Club division were going to [meet] people in the club so I decided [to] show support,” Trang said.
