Who are your most inspirational teachers?

“I love all the teachers on campus, [such as] Ms. Zheng, Mrs. Van Gorden, Ms. Wever, and, especially, Ms. B. Without them, I would not be the person I am today.”

What will you miss about high school?

“I am going to miss the [high school] experiences. When you go to college, you [will not] get rallies with the [same] spirit. [However], [I am excited to] join new clubs and teams in college and find more about who I am as a person.”

What is your go-to comfort food?

“Chicken. I would eat forty chicken nuggets and an entire bucket of KFC chicken. Everything is just chicken for me.”

Cats or dogs?

“I love dogs, even though my name has ‘cat’ in it. I would adopt four pugs and one corgi, because they are the best.”

What is your best joke?

“What do you call a sketchy Italian neighborhood? Spaghetto.”


Rachael Kakumasu (12)

What is the craziest thing you have ever done?

“I went indoor skydiving. It was pretty scary because I was scared of heights. [However], it was a pretty fun experience because I got to do it with my friends.”

In your 17 years of living, what is the most important thing you learned?

“[Do] everything in moderation. You should not be stressing too much about one thing. [Also], you must take a lot of things into consideration before making your decisions.”

What is your go-to comfort food?

“Sundubu, the Korean tofu soup, because I love soup and how it is warm and spicy.”

If you can invite anyone to HC, who would you invite?

“My grandpa, because he is my biggest supporter. Homecoming Court is a ‘big deal’, so [I hope] to share with him [that] I achieved something cool.”

Do you like your cereal soggy or crunchy?

“Crunchy, 100%.”


Felicia Kuo (12)

Who is your favorite teacher?

“Ms. B, because she always [encourages] us and backs us up. She is also very understanding.”

Favorite hobby?

“I like designing, because I enjoy putting things together and [expressing my] creativity. I really like making cards, too. I consider it my specialty.”

What is your favorite class?

“My favorite subject is ASB, because it is really friendly [environment].”

Why were you chosen?

“I think I was chosen, because I stand out. I am extremely spirited and really involved in school.”

If you can only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

“Chicken wings, because I love chicken wings.”

Favorite color?

“My favorite color [is] teal, because it is Key Club’s color.”

“[My favorite subject] is Spanish, because it is my roots.”

Why do you think you were chosen?

“I think I was chosen, because I am a good role model and, as ASB president, [I am] always looked upon. I am also very responsible.”

What special skills do you have?

“I [believe that] I am a good listener and I give good advice to my friends.”

If you had a superpower, what would it be?

“[I would] want to have invisibility [as my superpower], because I want to see what people say behind my back and what I can do to people.”

If you were to be an animal, which animal would you be?

“[I would be] a flying squirrel, because why not? They are cute and they can fly.”

If you can only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

“[I would choose] Tortas en Guaduas, [because] they taste so amazing.”

“Hey, are you in IB? Because IB falling for you.”

If there was an earthquake, what is the first thing you would do?

“I can make myself seem super cool and say that I am going to save someone’s life, but, realistically, I would probably run out of the room in tears, depending on how big it is.”

What career path do you want to pursue?

“I want to become a psychologist, because I want to make a difference in people’s lives, especially since mental health is not as prioritized as physical health.”

Who is your favorite singer?

“My favorite singer is either Troye Sivan or Dodie Clark. Their music is [both] soft and soothing, so it helps me relax, especially when I am stressed.”


Logan Mendoza (12)

Besides you, who do you think deserves to be Homecoming King?

“[All the candidates] deserve to be Homecoming [King], but Derrick, [in particular],  has so much spirit and is nice to everyone.”

Looking back, what is your favorite childhood memory?

“Going over to my friend’s house and spending the night, [because] we would just have fun and play basketball.”

Who would you shoutout to?

“Sophia Perez, my girlfriend.”

If you can be any character in a movie or TV show, who would you be?

“I would be Barney from How I Met Your Mother, because he is always happy and has a ‘go get it’ attitude.”

Truth or dare?

“Dare, [because] I just do not like answering ‘truth’ questions.”


David Orduna (12)

What will you miss about high school?

“I will miss the people in Drama, [because their personalities] are so charismatically complex.”

What career pathway do you want to pursue?

“I am interested in filmmaking, [because as a filmmaker],  you are responsible for the creative success of the film. Whenever you are given a script, you get to interpret it in a way that you envisioned it.”

How would you describe an ideal Homecoming King?

“You have to be the cool guy [who is] willing to connect with anybody and treat everyone nicely.”

Truth or dare?

“Truth, because I am mostly open with anything that I have to say. Dare is harder, because you may have to do [extreme] things, like jump off a cliff, and sometimes you are just not down for that.”

If you go to Paris, what is the first thing you will do?

“If I was in Paris, I would look at the buildings and the people [there], because I have never been out of United States.”


Cameron Joh (12)

What qualities make you a good candidate for Homecoming King?

“I am a people-person; I am good at [interacting] and having fun with all types of people.”

What is your dream college?

“I want to go to any school that makes me happy and allows me make to a difference in the world.”

“Snapchat, [because] I like to live in the moment.”

What is the most important lesson you have learned from high school?

“Don’t fall asleep in class! [However], I am still working on it.”

Do you have a hidden talent?

“[Although] it is not really a hidden talent, I have been playing the ukelele for six years.”

What are you currently binge-watching on Netflix?

“I watched five seasons of The Office in two weeks, because it is very funny.”


Derrick Khousavath (12)

What makes you stand out from the other candidates?

“I am the only one on the [varsity] water polo team. I have the support of my brothers, and I think that [is] really cool.”

What are you looking forward to the most at homecoming?

“The things I look forward to most about homecoming are dancing, being there with my friends and having a good time.”

Besides you, who do you think deserves to be Homecoming King?

“I think Logan should be Homecoming King, [because] he is funny, well-liked and well-rounded.”

Who has the biggest impact on your life?

“My mother. She is the best cook and [even] taught me how to cook. Shoutout to Mama Khousavath!”

How would you spend your last day on earth?

“I would eat a lot, try to relax and spend time with my family.”


Kelvin Gutierrez (12)

What qualities make you a good candidate for Homecoming King?

“I am a very outspoken [person]; I get along well with others and make sure everyone is doing their best when I am around.”

What is your ideal first date?

“The best first date would be something typical and cheesy, [like] a nice dinner [in] a romantic setting.”

What is one thing you cannot live without?

“One thing I cannot live without is my wallet, because [it is where I keep] my money, and money is really essential for life.”

What is your favorite way to waste time?

“My favorite way to waste time is to sit down and listen to various type of music.”

Who is your biggest inspiration?

“My biggest inspiration is my father. He started out with nothing, [but] now he lives a stable life and takes care of my family.”

Do you have a hidden talent?

“I am double-jointed [all]-around my body, so I am pretty flexible.”
