On Wednesday, Nov. 14, girls’ water polo beat Beverly Hills HS with a final score of 16-7.
According to captain Charley Jackson (12), the girls performed well for their first game, but need to improve on teamwork.
“We were nervous in the beginning, but we ultimately pulled through and ended the game strong,” Jackson said. “It was difficult to have new varsity players, so we need to bring them up to speed in order to be more efficient.”
Despite the outcome of the game, goalie Madeline Gaitan (12) believes the team could have played better with more self-confidence and the support of their coach.
“[During the game], we were inconsistent and getting down on ourselves,” Gaitan said. “Since our coach got a red card the last game, we were forced to play without him, which led to miscommunication and [failed plays].”
Nonetheless, player Sarah Ni (12) believes the team’s effort and mindset will assist in more wins during league.
“So far, the girls have shown hard work during practice which will pay off as season continues,” Ni said. “[I hope to focus on] incorporating plays we practice into actual games, so we can advance past the first round of CIF.”
Girls water polo will be preparing for their next away game against Walnut HS on Nov. 27.
