On Tuesday, Aug. 28, girls’ volleyball lost to Bell Gardens HS with a score of 0-3.
With this being volleyball’s seventh scrimmage, there is only one remaining before the official start of league.
According to captain Brianna Gonzalez (12), the lack of communication and teamwork affected their score.
“With volleyball, it’s 99% teamwork and 1% [independence]… And today we just couldn’t get it,” Gonzales said. “We couldn’t talk [and] no one was helping each other out.”
To improve for upcoming matches, middle blocker Solona Marquez (10) plans to work on passing and hitting techniques.
“We focus a lot on passing and serving at practice. We need to move around [the court] more in order to support each other,” Marquez said. “[Our team practices] hitting lines and [we should incorporate] that into our games.”
Despite this defeat, Gonzalez remains optimistic for self improvement and her team’s future.
“As captain, handling pressure is difficult and I try not to let the girls see it [by being confident],” Gonzalez says. “My ultimate goal is to win league, especially for [our] seniors.”
The girls’ first league game will be home against Northview HS on Tuesday, Sep. 6.
