Girls’ tennis succumbed to La Serna HS on Monday, Aug. 27 with a score of 8-10.

According to head coach Jerelyn Lopez, the team’s preliminary lineup contributed to their ultimate defeat.

The team is continuing mock matches and challenges to trial players as potential partners in order to finalize the official lineup.

“[Because] we are still [in the process] of matching up [doubles] players to [their] right partner, our players’ [overall] communication [has not been well established],” Lopez said.

Despite the loss, co-captain Cherise Ching (12) considers this  match to be a valuable learning experience.

“We [understood] that we were down [points], but did [our] best to [lessen] the gaps in our scores with [new techniques] such as poaching,” Ching said. “[Through this], I learned that our players [can really thrive] under pressure.”

Overall, player Isabella Lin (9) believes that the team did their best under the circumstances.

“[For one of our] first games, we [definitely] played to our utmost potential. We tried our best [despite] not having as much practice as we should have had,” Lin said.

The team will continue playing scrimmages in preparation for league.

The girls’ next game will be home against El Rancho HS on Sept. 5.
