Diamond Bar HS defeats Wilson in water polo

On Sep. 29, Glen A. Wilson High School boys varsity water polo lost against Diamond Bar HS by a score of 5-27.

Wilson head coach Amy Mattson stated that the team was ready to bounce back after the loss.

“I am confident in our team this year,” Mattson said. “After not having a season last year, we were eager to get back out there and play. The team practices Monday through Friday from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. [During this time] we train by practicing specific skills and what to do in certain game situations.”

Wilson goalie William Chieu (11) described his role in the game.
“I was constantly scanning around for anyone that was open, and figuring out what play the opponent would run next,” Chieu said. “[For future games] I can improve  my role by better learning to predict whether [the other team is] faking or actually shooting.”

Additionally, Marc Young (9) was ecstatic to see the competition.

“Strengthening our bonds with other schools and seeing Wilson’s teamwork through sports was great,” Young said. “[I was happy to be] there to support our team and cheer them on.”

Wilson’s next game will take place at Rowland HS on Oct. 6.
