The Wilson Dance Department performed in its annual Spring Concert on Apr. 18.
This concert is the last one of the year for the Dance Department. Beginning Dance performed routines choreographed by Dance Physical Education (P.E.) teacher Nina Chang, and Interminate and Advanced Dance performed self-choreographed routines. Hours before the concert started, the show sold out in presale tickets.
According to Chang, there are several different purposes for the Spring Concert.
“The purpose of this concert is to share dance with the whole school and the families of all the students,” Chang said. “As a part of our standard, all students have to perform so that they show what they learned throughout the school year.”
As Advanced Dance member senior Julie Yang explains, this concert holds a personal significance for her.
“Today’s performances were very emotional as I have been in Advanced Dance for three years, and it is really heartbreaking knowing it is coming to an end. However, everything must come to an end for new beginnings,” Yang said. “[As for my performances], I will say that I am most proud of my solo because that performance is the closest to me and I felt really honored to close the show with it.”
Furthermore, Beginning Dance member freshman Jessica Wang explains her hopes for her future in this program.
“Next year, I will be in Advanced Dance and I hope I do better,” Wang said. “In this program, I have two new friends, which I hope to keep throughout my dance career.”
This is the Dance Department’s last show of the year.
