Throughout the month of September, Glen A. Wilson students get the opportunity to hear from a diverse lineup of private, University of California (UC), and California State University (CSU) colleges about the different programs each has to offer!
This week there were representatives from four colleges, Grand Canyon University, University of California Riverside, University of California Los Angeles, and Whittier College.
Guidance arranges these college visits with the goal of setting students up for post-secondary education, and to connect them with colleges across and out of state to give them a chance to learn and explore within high school
Kaisha Ross, the UC Riverside Coordinator visited campus on Sept. 13 to give a presentation to students and explained what she wanted to have students get out of these visits.
“I like to be able to engage and let students know that whatever it is that they want to do with their particular life, or in their education or career, that we have the opportunity to help them.”
A simple tip that Mrs. Khan, one of the guidance counselors at Wilson offers is “to pay attention to how they feel during the presentation” and to think about what is most exciting about what the college has to offer.
Senior Glen Fujimaki also shares these sentiments, sharing how the visits have helped him have more options and get to know the colleges better before applying to see if they are a good fit.
“I just want to know what kind of options I have and be able to ask any questions you have about the school upfront. I think it’s a great opportunity to visit these events.”
Next week, UC Irvine will visit on Monday, Sept. 18, and Otis College of Art and Design on Thursday, Sept. 21. Keep a lookout on your counselor page for more info.
