On Wednesday Oct. 2, boy’s water polo lost 1-13 against San Dimas HS.

To prepare for the game, the team practiced various sets, plays and other warm-ups. Moving forward, they will continue to better their performance and continue the rest of the season strong.

Despite the loss, player Spencer Howard (11) remains hopeful for the future and believes in the team’s capabilities.

“Our team gives [our] all for every game and sometimes we [are] faced with challenges,” Howard said. “[However], there is nothing to do other than give it 100 percent and if we do that, that is a win in our books, [which is what we did during the match].”

Similarly player Ethan Van (11) holds that physical and mental strength are vital elements of the team’s performance.

“It is important to get mentally ready because there is a lot of pressure and negativity from the other team [during matches] and you have to learn how to stay focused,” Van said. “Personally, I am confident so the opponents do not faze me.”

Overall, goalie Mattew Buck (11) believes the team can improve by utilizing communication.

“We need to work on more teamwork instead of going off and doing our own things,” Buck said. “Yesterday, we did not do well because none of the guys were talking to each other, which is needed especially during games. [In addition], I need to work on a lot of aspects like blocking the ball.”

Boy’s water polo will compete against Rowland HS on Monday, Oct 7.
