Boys’ Waterpolo succumbs to Ocean View HS in CIF Wildcard Match

On Tuesday, Oct. 31, boys’ water polo suffered a loss against Ocean View HS with a final score of 7-12.

The team came third place in league and played a wildcard match against Ocean View to enter the first round of California Interscholastic Federation (CIF).

Unfortunately, after being defeated, the team does not qualify for CIF, marking the end of the season.

According to Jonathan Han (11), disunity led to the team’s ultimate defeat.

“I believe we were evenly matched with [Ocean View], but they had better team composition which allowed them to defeat us,” Han said.

Despite the loss, the team’s growth and progression impressed co-captain Michael Pfeiffer (12).

“[In] the first game of the season, everyone got mad at themselves for [missing] shots,” Pfeiffer said. “But now we play more like a team [through] peer encouragement.”

However, Pfeiffer believes that he could have improved as an individual.

“Looking back, I wish I focused more on my overall strength rather than letting small mistakes get in the way,” Pfeiffer said. “Increasing overall strength would have helped me play better with my team.”

With the goal of qualifying for CIF next year, Han hopes that the team can become even more unified and truly play as one.

“I hope we are able to become closer as a team, gain more achievements than we did this year and improve our communication,” Han said. “Personally, I want to gain more chemistry with the players and [help] guide the underclassmen.”

Water polo will be hosting a banquet to celebrate the end of the season.
