On Friday, Nov. 9, boys’ basketball competed in a scrimmage against Walnut HS.

According to head coach Willie Allen, the team’s prior experience prepared them for their difficult opponent.

“We have seen Walnut before, they are long, fast and athletic. [Knowing this], we practiced playing five-on-six [where] six guys play defense on five [other players] to create and [mimic game] pressure. [This helped the team] learn how to handle the pressure,” Allen said.

Furthermore, Josh Orito (10) says the team needs to improve on communicating with each other.

“One thing as a team we need to work on is communication, both in offense and defense,” Orito said. “For example, on the defensive end if we are not talking, someone [can] drive in and gets past one our [players], we [will] not be able to help and the other team would be able to score.”

All in all, power forward Carlos Macias (11) says there are high expectations for the team this year.

“Our team went outside and played their hardest and that is what I expect from them,” Macias said. “We have a great team this year and I expect a lot from them. I hope that [this year] we go undefeated.”

Wildcats will be competing in the Whittier Turkey Classic Tournament on Nov. 19.
