Boys basketball dazzles in first game of the season

Glen A. Wilson boys’ basketball’s first game of the season took place this past Monday, seeing the Wildcats defeat Mountain View HS by an astounding final score of 75-17.

Head Coach Willie Allen has coached this team for the past 17-years and attributed much of the team’s success to their chemistry with one another on and off the court.

“The comradery that they have usually has to be instilled into a team, but they already have it,” Allen said. “Everyone plays with each other very well. They have succeeded [thus far] because they have bought into the mentality of ‘we, not me’ during games. [Additionally,] being able to practice during the summer and fall has helped immensely.”

Team captain Justin Huh (12) expressed his excitement to be back on the court this year.

“It felt amazing to be back on the court,” Huh said. “I was definitely worried that COVID would make this season impossible to play. [Furthermore], even though we had a blowout win of 75-17, we know that our future games will be a lot tougher.”

Finally, Aaron Hou (11) discussed how excited he was to just be on the team.

“I have been playing [basketball] since I was a little kid, and one of my goals was always to make the varsity team in high school,” Hou said. “We have worked so hard since the end of last year’s season, just to get to where we are at now. It is crucial that we do not let up.”

The team’s next game will take place at El Rancho HS versus Loyola HS on Nov. 29.
