Badminton cruises into CIF

On Apr. 21, badminton defeated Webb HS by a score of 18-3.

The win comes during the team’s final home game of the regular season.

Captain Ashley Yang (12) discusses the hefty preparations that the group made before their match.

“We were able to overcome Webb by training hard for two weeks straight, three hours a day,” Yang said. “The majority of our team took it upon themselves to schedule time outside of school to play with their teammates as well.”

In addition, Winson Zhu (12) reflects on the performance of his teammates.

“I was very surprised with how well [the team] did as our scores really improved from our last match,” Zhu said. “Everyone has worked so hard to get to the place that they are, and it has all paid off, allowing us to reach team California Interscholastic Federation-Southern Section playoffs (CIF).”

Finally, Karsten Ma (12) shares how this game was a spirited team performance.

“We came in with a very resolved and determined mindset and made sure to implement that into our play,” Ma said. “That helped us feel really confident about the matchup, and we ended up winning in dominant fashion.”

With the win against Webb HS, badminton has qualified for the team CIF competition! The squad will now reset and refocus, looking to place in individual CIF play.
