As school returns after a well-needed summer break, Glen A. Wilson High School (GAWHS) welcomes students back on campus with a vibrant Back to School rally on Aug. 9.
Cheerful music, exciting games, and spirited dances—the Back to School rally encompasses the wildcat spirit and brings newcomers and returners back in rhythm for the 2023-2024 school year. Hosted by the Associated Student Body (ASB), many students and faculty members enjoyed the rally and appreciated the bonding opportunity before moving into a busy school year.
Breaking the ice between new students and teachers, Biology teacher Mrs. Chap who attended the rally with her students reflects on her experience.
“The rally was fantastic! [The] ASB and Mrs. Branconier [did] an excellent job. It was nice to see students with so much school spirit, as well as the teachers.” Chap said. “[And] I thoroughly enjoyed the alumni-teachers’ singing. It was a great way to kick start the new school year.”
Additıonally, English teacher Ms. Robles also shares her perspective on the necessity of the Back to School rally.
“I think the rally gives new and returning students a chance to feel the culture of Wilson! We have a ton of school pride here, and this event gives students who are not yet familiar with our family environment.” Robles explained. “My favorite part of the rally is the dance performances! I love seeing how hyped all the students get during these [performances].”
Beyond forming new friendships, returning students such as sophomore Derek Hernandez (10) also used the rally as an opportunity to reconnect with familiar faces.
“I really enjoyed the rally,” Hernandez recalled. “It was fun to attend the rally with friends.”
Summing up an eventful rally, the wildcat family is now back in the groove. Energized, united, and high-spirited—the Wildcats are ready for the 2023-2024 school year!
