Advanced Drama competed in the Drama Teacher’s Association of Southern of California (DTASC) Festival at Canyon High School on Oct. 20.
The DTASC Festival is a drama competition designated for theatre programs across southern California consisting of ten events, ranging from audition monologue to group musical to costuming. Drama advanced to the semi-finals in large group comedy and finals in student original, winning an Honorable Mention.
According to drama teacher Kimberly Weaver, watching her students compete brought her great pride.
“My students put a lot of time and effort into their scenes,” Weaver said. “Of course, the students who dedicated more time outside of class subsequently made it further than those who did not.”
Despite advancing to finals, student original member senior Claire Pew reflects on her group’s strengths and weaknesses.
“One of our group’s biggest strengths was the bond and connection we had,” Pew said. “However, one of our weaknesses included lack of preparation time, [because] we only had two months to prepare.”
Furthermore, large group comedy member senior Adriana Figueroa explains why her group did not make it to the finals.
“During the first two rounds, we were pretty confident, which [helped] us advance to the semi-finals,” Figueroa said. “Nevertheless, our nerves got the best of us during semis, in which we fell short.”
Advanced Drama’s next event will be “Haunted Theater: PYSCHOlogy” from Oct. 29 to 31.
