On Friday, Oct. 19, Cross Country competed in an invitational at Mt. San Antonio College (Mt. Sac).
Over fifty schools participated in the three-mile race, and runners competed in their respective grade and skill category. Despite having a large number of schools present, Wilson took numerous medals and awards.
According to co-captain Lily Lin (12), previous meets helped the team to reach their potential.
“The meets [leading up to this one] allowed us to see what we needed to adjust,” Lin said. “This gives the team motivation to do their best at every competition, something that is [influential] to the outcome of races.”
In addition, the race showed runner Clement Shih (12) that endurance and speed, along with mindset, contributed to his performance.
“Because the competition is so tough, having perseverance and pushing myself to do the best for my team was crucial to doing well [during the race],” Shih said.
Looking forward, coach Mike Gomez believes the team encompasses the potential to qualify for California Interscholastic Federation (CIF).
“I see potential in the runners to be able to make it to CIF. Although we’ve had a successful season so far, the team still needs to consistently practice and push themselves to be able to advance,” Gomez said.
Cross Country will compete in league finals at Bonelli Park on October 31.
